WHO: Brigid Avery

AKA @WheresBrigid

What was life like before The Bootcamp?

“Before The Travel Bootcamp I was working as an international luxury travel advisor for a big travel company, for nearly 30 years. I was 24/7 on call, I was after-hours assist for my clients. I literally worked 365 days a year, my laptop came everywhere with me.

I thought I was happy, but I really didn’t have much of a personal life. I have amazing friends, but they were constantly asking ‘Where’s Brigid?’ at events and birthdays. I realised that I was actually missing out on my life, working non-stop for this company.”

What happened next?

“After attending the Bootcamp I was determined to make an instant change. As soon as I got home, I actually took the lessons I had learned from Georgia, about pitching, and I wrote a pitch to a luxury river cruise company in Europe. The next thing I know, I’ve been offered a 7-night luxury cruise, in the top suite category, in exchange for content creation. I got home from the Bootcamp, sent off the pitch and flew out 3 weeks later.

The cruise was from Budapest through Germany, everything was paid for and I was even on board for Christmas. It was amazing.

By virtue of me pitching alone, with the skills I learned at the Travel Bootcamp, the ticket more than paid for itself.”

“Whilst in Europe I also attended the International Luxury Travel Market event in Cannes, France, which was a really special thing to be invited to and included in. I essentially worked my way around Europe creating content.

The Travel Bootcamp gave me the confidence and the skills to be able to put myself out there.”

What were the greatest teachings you took from the event?

“There were so many things that I took from The Travel Bootcamp, but one of the biggest lessons was on how to pitch by Georgia Rickard. I’ve never pitched anything in my life, so for her to take us from literally step one, right through the whole process, that was invaluable.

Lauren Bath’s lesson on the importance of media kits was also incredible. Before The Travel Bootcamp I didn’t even know there was such a thing, but having that template now to create my own I know will definitely help me advance professionally.

And these are just a few of the tangible things I learnt from the Bootcamp.

The mindset teachings and community that come from the Bootcamp are just as, if not more, valuable.”

What’s on the cards next?

“Well, since attending the Travel Bootcamp I actually quit my job in pursuit of some career and time freedom. Since leaving my job I have actually started two new businesses and am on my way to achieving the career I have always dreamed of.

You know, of-course travel is on hold for now, but as soon as travel restrictions ease I will be heading back to Rishikesh, India, to stay in a beautiful retreat to create some content for a local destination management company.

It is so much better, my career has completely evolved. I couldn’t be happier. My day now starts at 10am in the morning and finishes whenever I want it to. I make sure I make time for myself too, I go for a walk on the beach in the morning, or do pilates or read a book. My quality of life is so much better now that I am my own boss.  I now feel, in my life, that I am in complete control.”

What would you say to anyone that’s hesitant about joining The Bootcamp?

“If you want to make a change in your life, and in your career, and you want to take that next step to create personal and professional freedom, then The Travel Bootcamp is a no-brainer.

I think if you’re wanting to be a writer and a photographer, or influencer, The Travel Bootcamp is for you.”
