Five tips to amp up your social media presence

We dish the five most important things you need to do NOW to improve your social media presence and grow your Instagram following.

Are you hungry for social media success but just can’t seem to push your blog / insta’ / youtube followers over a couple of hundred? A lot of people are in the same boat – we get it, it’s hard to start out.

But what if we told you that we could give you a leg-up? We have been doing this for a long time, and collectively, our co-founders have found the in’s and out’s of what gets your social media account really singing – and attracting a bunch of new followers!

We hope you’re hungry  because we’re dishing a full meal worth of tips to push your social media presence to the next level.

1. Know your audience

This one feels a little obvious, but you would be surprised with how many people don’t take the time to look at what their audience is responding to.

It’s true of our brand, and it’s probably true of yours, the content that you create draws in your followers. For example, people that are interested in travel photography (and travel in general) follow @Laurenepbath and they expect that her content will consistently reflect what they have come to see (they probably wouldn’t be so responsive to Lauren reviewing video games, for example).

It’s SUPER important, especially when first starting out, to look at the engagement that comes from what you’re posting. If your audience are digging your explainer videos or your sunrise shots, it’s probably a good idea to pump out some more of that content. Give the people what they want, as they say.

If you’re serious about growing your Instagram following, you should be switching over to a business account so that you can use analytics to see how many people are engaging with your content. This helps you to really see what people like (and what they don’t) and let that guide where you go in the future.

This point leads to the next!

2. Consistent Content

This is a HUGE one. It’s really important to ensure you have content coming out all the time. It’s so easy to ride a wave of inspiration for a while and then quickly lose enthusiasm – this is what happens to most travel blogs, they all start with good intentions but they lose their wind.

It’s not only enough to post consistent content, but it is (maybe moreso) important to create *quality* content. We’re talking about beautiful images and great copy (this is true for both social media and blog).

We aren’t going to lie, it takes a lot of time and effort to pump out consistent content – but we promise this will not only keep your current followers entertained but will actually *grow* your following. This is so for a few reasons: people follow you because they want to see what you’re posting + consistent content makes your brand look professional + pumping out content will increase your chances of reaching new audiences (ones that have not followed your page… yet!).

So, get to it!

3. Authenticity

In the social-media-sphere a great way to stand out is to be authentically yourself (no-one else can duplicate you and this can be your greatest asset).

Essentially, on social media, you = your brand. Our co-founder Georgia Rickard is known for her ambition and her amazing career/life advice, but she also lets her followers know her vulnerabilities. She is honest online, so her followers KNOW her and they stick around for the ride.

It’s really important that your following knows you too – and the easiest way to create an authentic (and consistent) voice is to use your own.

4. Follower follow-up

This one is potentially the most important. Some of the biggest names out there started by replying to every comment and direct message that came their way. This fosters a great relationship with their audience and, ultimately, keeps them coming back.

We know this sounds tedious, particularly once you have breached the point of success online – BUT if you want your followers to be loyal, you need to put in the time and effort. This is particularly important when someone has taken the time to ask you for advice or to pay you a compliment on your work.

Remember, without your followers you don’t have a brand.

5. Use every tool at your disposal

Not only is it imperative that your brand has a presence on social media, but it is equally as important that you are using all the tools and features provided on that platform. For example, if you are on Instagram (and you definitely should be!) and you’re not utilising Instagram Stories feature– you are doing yourself a disservice.

Laurens top Instagram Stories features for follower engagement.

Instagram Stories are a great way to grow your following and engage your audience. They are, in essence, a narrative you post to your Stories feature, and they have a great ability to create variety in your content. They allow for engagement with your audience through interactive features like polls, quizzes and challenges. To ignore a tool like this one would be detrimental to any brand trying to grow online.

The internet (and social media) is constantly evolving and it is super important for your brand that you evolve with it.
